Two from the Capital Region Apprehended with Over $100,000 in Cocaine

According to State Police in New York, a recent car check approximately an hour south of Albany resulted in the criminal arrests of two Capital Region residents who were traveling with over 1,000 grams of cocaine.

According to a news statement from the New York State Police, troopers conducted a traffic check on the Taconic State Parkway in the Town of Clinton on May 1st, approximately one hour south of Albany.

According to the report, troopers pulled over a BMW vehicle from 2022. During the inquiry, they discovered that the driver of the vehicle, James E. Brown, 43, of Rensselaer, and the passenger, Jyquez K. Grant, 23, of Voorheesville, were in possession of over 1.1 thousand grams of cocaine.

While it is difficult to calculate the street value of the drugs collected, an average gram of cocaine may fetch between $100 and $300, and you don’t have to be a math expert to realize that’s a lot of drugs.

The estimated value ranges from $120,000 to $200,000.

The NYSP reports that Brown and Grant were detained and charged with:

  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 1st Degree (Class A-I felony)
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree (Class B felony)
  • Brown and Grant were arraigned in the Town of Pleasant Valley Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail.
