Rapper Tory Lanez Hospitalized After Stabbing in California Prison

Rapper Tory Lanez, currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, was hospitalized Monday after being stabbed by another inmate at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi.

According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), the incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. Lanez — whose real name is Daystar Peterson — is reported to be in fair condition. An Instagram post from his official Instagram account claimed he was stabbed 14 times, suffering serious wounds to his back, torso, head, and face, and that both lungs had collapsed. However, it added that his condition is improving: “He is now breathing on his own… talking normally, in good spirits, and deeply thankful to God that he is pulling through.”

The suspected attacker, identified as Santino Casio, is serving a life sentence for second-degree murder and attempted murder. He has a history of violent offenses within the prison and has been placed in restricted housing while the incident is under investigation.

Lanez’s Incarceration: A Brief Recap

Lanez was convicted in December 2022 for shooting rapper Megan Thee Stallion (Megan Pete) in both feet during an argument after a party in July 2020. The trial, marked by intense public scrutiny and division within the hip-hop community, ended with Lanez found guilty of:

  • Assault with a semi-automatic firearm

  • Possession of a concealed, unregistered firearm

  • Negligent discharge of a firearm

He was sentenced to 10 years in prison in August 2023 and is currently appealing the verdict. Bond was denied.

Continued Controversy from Behind Bars

Despite being incarcerated, Lanez has faced allegations of continuing to harass Megan Thee Stallion through intermediaries. A Los Angeles court granted an extension of the protective order against him through 2030, citing concerns over online harassment allegedly coordinated by Lanez using outside parties.

The case has drawn broader attention to the treatment of Black women in entertainment and justice systems. During the trial, Megan Thee Stallion testified about the emotional and psychological toll of the shooting and the backlash she faced. “I wish he would have just shot and killed me, if I knew I would have to go through this torture,” she said on the stand.

As investigations into the prison stabbing continue, Lanez’s legal and personal challenges show no signs of letting up.
