Netflix has officially started construction on a major new production facility in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, marking the beginning of a $1 billion investment to create an East Coast production hub. The new facility will include 12 advanced soundstages spanning nearly 500,000 square feet, along with additional spaces for film production and community amenities.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos expressed pride in the company’s continued investment in the U.S. creative sector. “These studios will create thousands of jobs for New Jersey residents, billions of dollars in economic output, and many cultural benefits to the region,” Sarandos said. Netflix has already made significant contributions to the U.S. economy, with $125 billion generated over the past four years and more than 140,000 crew members employed.
The development of Netflix Studios Fort Monmouth follows recent advocacy efforts by Hollywood figures like Jon Voight and Sylvester Stallone, who have called for tax relief for the TV and film industry. While Netflix’s plans for the site have been in the works for some time, the groundbreaking ceremony signals an important step forward.
Demolition work is expected to take about 13 months, with the studio set to open in 2028. However, further approvals are still required before full-scale construction can begin.
