A Swanton man who had been missing for more than three weeks was discovered dead Monday.
Keith Klein Sr., 68, was last seen at 6 p.m. on April 2, Swanton police said.
According to a press release issued Tuesday by the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, his corpse was discovered Monday in the 2600 block of Scott Road, Swanton Township.
At 5:25 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to a 911 call from a lady who reported finding a person face down in a drainage ditch off Scott Road, Lucas County Sheriff Mike Navarre told WTOL 11.
Authorities discovered the half submerged body at the area, which Navarre described as being near the Norfolk Southern Railroad.
Swanton Police Chief John Trejo announced Tuesday that the Swanton Police Department is working with the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office and the Lucas County Coroner’s Office to investigate Klein Sr.’s death.
“We extend our condolences to Mr. Klein’s family and friends at this difficult time,” Trejo added in the statement. “We would like to thank the public and all agencies who assisted in the searches and shared information.”
Keith Klein Jr. informed WTOL 11 that his father’s body was found in Swanton Township Monday evening.
Since Keith Klein Sr.’s disappearance in Swanton, family members and neighbors have been looking frantically. The search had included neighborhoods, wooded regions, and train tracks that ran through town.
A week after his departure, his family stated it was unusual for him, and his son said he could tell his father was developing symptoms of alcoholic dementia.
The Lucas County Coroner’s Office is still investigating the cause of death.
