911 operators received a call from a neighbor who witnessed the woman falling into the courtyard of the San Ysidro apartment complex.
A man accused of killing his girlfriend by throwing her off a third-floor walkway outside their San Ysidro apartment is now in custody, NBC 7’s Kelvin Henry reports after speaking with shocked residents of the complex.
San Diego Police Department officials say the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Monday in the 500 block of West San Ysidro Boulevard. Patrol officers responded after someone reported seeing a woman fall into the courtyard below.
They found 61-year-old Irene Williams with severe head trauma and a broken leg. Paramedics rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Officers arrested 57-year-old Albert Turner, Williams’ boyfriend, at the scene. Police say the deadly act occurred during an argument inside their apartment.
According to the police news release, “At some point, Williams began throwing Turner’s belongings over the railing of the balcony corridor,” after which Turner “then threw Williams over the railing onto the concrete below.”
A neighbor told NBC 7 on Tuesday, “I see her around all the time. She’s just a frail, little old lady. He was big, you know, muscular — you know, he was a big guy.”
The neighbor added that Turner had been living with Williams in the apartment for about 30 days.
