A suspect linked to the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy in Lakewood has been apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Colorado Springs. The individual, identified as 20-year-old Philix Baca, was taken into custody on Wednesday evening.
The Violent Task Force of the U.S. Marshals Service successfully located and arrested a suspect wanted for homicide in Lakewood on Wednesday night in Colorado Springs.
Philix Baca, age 20, was sought by the Lakewood Police Department under a felony arrest warrant for first-degree murder related to a shooting incident that occurred last year, resulting in the death of a 14-year-old boy.
Following the incident, multiple individuals were detained; however, Baca evaded capture at that time.
On Wednesday, the Colorado Violent Offender Task Force (COVOTF) in Denver received intelligence indicating that Baca was present in the Colorado Springs region.
Task Force Officers collaborated with Deputy U.S. Marshals, the Fountain Police Department, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to establish surveillance operations in Colorado Springs.
During these operations, authorities observed an individual resembling Baca exiting a vehicle and entering a residence located in the 5000 block of Whimsical Drive, near the intersection of North Carefree Circle and Oro Blanco Drive.
Subsequently, investigators secured a search warrant for the premises. According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Baca was safely apprehended and has been booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on the outstanding homicide warrant.
