Three people were hurt Sunday morning after a fight broke out and gunshots were fired at Big Ed’s restaurant off Falls of Neuse Road in Raleigh — a popular Mother’s Day brunch destination.
According to the Raleigh Police Department, officers responded around 11:50 a.m. to reports of shots fired at the restaurant in the busy Quail Corners shopping center. Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries from the fight, and a third person sustained a graze wound.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene inside the restaurant. “People were punching, hitting and throwing chairs,” said Amanda Lewis, who was dining with her husband and children. “Next thing you know, here goes the shots being fired.”
Video shared with WRAL News shows a man pulling a gun and firing three rounds into the floor before punching a woman in the face.
Police said there was no active threat by 12:45 p.m., though no arrests have been made as of Monday morning. An investigation is ongoing.
Big Ed’s has announced that their Falls of Neuse location will remain closed Monday and Tuesday.
Witnesses, including restaurant workers and nearby business employees, said the violence left patrons shaken. “People were actually starting to break down and cry,” said Cody Boone, who works next door at The Butcher’s Market. “The person I was ringing out literally went behind our butcher’s case to seek shelter.”
The incident occurred during peak brunch hours on Mother’s Day, turning what was meant to be a peaceful celebration into a traumatic experience for many.
