TROTWOOD — The Northmont boys swim team won the Trotwood Greenon Winter Invite on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Trotwood Aquatic Center.
The boys were first out of 26 teams and won by 150 points. The Lady Bolts were 4th overall. Combined the Northmont swim teams placed 2nd overall at the Winter Invite behind a very strong performance by Versailles.
Leading the way was senior, Josiah English who won both his individual events in the 100 yard Individual Medley and the 50 yard backstroke along with being a member of the 1st place 200 yard medley relay swimming the backstroke leg. This was English’s first time winning an individual event at this meet.
In the 100 yard freestyle event, the Bolts went one, two, three with freshmen, John Hoyng winning the event, Cameron Roberts placing 2nd, and senior team captain Mitch Asbury finishing 3rd.
In the 100 yard Individual Medley, the Bolts struck again going one, two with English reaching the wall 1st and sophomore Jonah Mergler right behind him for 2nd place.
Several boys placed 3rd individually, Hoyng in the 50 yard freestyle, Mergler in the 50 yard butterfly, and Roberts in the 50 yard breast stroke.
The boys relays placed 1st (English, Roberts, Mergler, and Hoyng) and 3rd (Eric Woods, Joey McKarns, Kyle DeLano, and Asbury) in the 200 yard medley relay.
The 200 yard freestyle relays finished 2nd (Roberts, English, DeLano, and Hoyng) and 4th (Asbury, Woods, McKarns, and Mergler).
Highlights on the ladies side, sophomore Phoebe Caraway placed 3rd in the 100 yard freestyle with a personal best time and 5th in the 50 yard freestyle. Senior Izzy Caraway also had a personal best time in the 50 yard breast stroke placing 3rd and Junior Lindsey Dresnek was 8th place in the 50 yard backstroke.
The Lady Bolts were 4th in the 200 yard medley relay (Dresnek, I. Caraway, P. Caraway, and Liv Jones) and 11th place (Abby Gutierrez, Allison Jackson, Jasmine Johnston, and Ava Brant). The ladies finished 6th place in the 200 yard freestyle relay (Jones, Brant, Gutierrez, and P. Caraway).
The following swimmers placed top ten individually, DeLano 5th in 100 yard freestyle and 6th in the 50 yard freestyle and McKarns in the 50 yard breast stroke.
The Thunderbolts will be back in the water Saturday at the Kleptz YMCA for a tri-meet against Chaminade-Julienne and Tipp City at 6 p.m. This is a great opportunity to come on out and support the swimmers.
