An Ohio deputy was fatally shot while responding to a domestic violence call, allegedly by a man who had warned officers to stay away and claimed he’d be “okay” with dying that night.
Brian Michael Wilson, 53, faces an aggravated murder charge after he allegedly shot down Morrow County Sheriff’s Deputy Daniel Sherrer, 31, during a confrontation on Memorial Day. According to court records cited by WLWT, Sherrer was dispatched to Wilson’s home for a domestic disturbance call. As the four-year veteran arrived, he was allegedly met with immediate gunfire.
Sherrer’s body camera captured the tense exchange. WLWT reported that Wilson sat on his front porch, armed, and issued multiple threats: “Don’t come up here,” and “Don’t f—ing come around that corner, I will f—ing kill you.”
Despite the warnings, Sherrer tried to approach. Wilson escalated his threats, shouting, “I’m not f—ing playing, you better just f—ing go if you want your family to see you tomorrow,” and “Get the f— out of here now.”
Sherrer attempted to de-escalate, but Wilson allegedly opened fire. Court documents cited by the Columbus Dispatch revealed that Wilson used two handguns during the shootout—both recovered at the scene. Sherrer’s body cam reportedly captured the sound of one gun clicking as it emptied.
A neighbor later told police that Wilson had ominously said earlier that evening, “I don’t want you around this. I don’t want you to get involved. If I were to die tonight, I’d be okay with it.”
Wilson, who has a criminal history dating back to the 1990s, including a 2009 domestic violence arrest in Marion County, was shot by police during the incident and hospitalized in critical condition. He remains under arrest for aggravated murder.
