District Five detectives are seeking public assistance in identifying four individuals in connection with a robbery that occurred on the night of April 25 on DeBaliviere Place. According to an SLMPD complaint, a 24-year-old guy was surrounded by two young men and two young women, after which a succession of demands disrupted what had begun as a peaceful evening.
The victim stated that the incident occurred at 10 p.m. near Debaliviere and Pershing Avenues, when one of the male suspects engaged him in conversation and then requested his headphones. The scenario apparently deteriorated when the suspect insisted on the item while alluding to a possible weapon hidden in a fanny pack, prompting the victim to hand over his headphones. “The 24-year-old stated he feared there was a weapon inside the fanny pack at that point,” the SLMPD report reads.
Following the initial demand, the suspect focused his attention on the man’s phone. The suspect refused attempted alternatives, such as offering to send money electronically, resulting in the victim giving up his phone when the suspect requested it a second time. The group allegedly fled quickly, causing no injuries in their wake. The authorities are actively searching for these individuals, and no arrests have been announced in this instance.
Witnesses and anyone with information on the robbery are invited to contact authorities.
