Tensions on India’s western border have escalated sharply, with the government accusing Pakistan of launching continuous assaults using drones, fighter jets, long-range weapons, and loitering munitions. India confirmed it carried out precision retaliatory strikes on identified military targets and strongly rejected Pakistan’s misinformation campaign.
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi revealed that Pakistan attacked 26 locations spanning from Srinagar to Chhalliya, including Army hospitals, military sites, and civilian infrastructure.
“The Pakistani army continues to strike along the western front using drones, long-range weapons, loitering munitions, and fighter jets,” Qureshi said.
“They attempted air infiltration at more than 26 sites and caused damage to equipment and personnel at air force bases in Udhampur, Bhuj, Pathankot, and Bathinda. They fired high-speed missiles at Punjab’s air base around 1:40 AM and even attacked health facilities and schools.”
Key Developments from Operation Sindoor:
-
Pakistan launched coordinated strikes on 26 Indian locations.
-
Indian airbases in Udhampur, Adampur, Pathankot, and Bathinda suffered damage.
-
Army hospitals in Srinagar, Avantipur, and Udhampur were also hit.
-
Pakistani troops moved toward forward positions, signaling an intent to escalate.
Wing Commander Vyomika Singh confirmed Pakistan’s troop movements and emphasized India’s high operational readiness.
“Pakistan is pushing troops toward forward areas, indicating an offensive stance. India remains prepared and has proportionately responded to every hostile act,” Singh said.
“Our armed forces are committed to de-escalation if Pakistan chooses to reciprocate.”
Colonel Qureshi added that Indian forces responded with calibrated precision strikes focused solely on military targets.
“In a swift and calculated move, we targeted only identified military installations,” she said.
“Meanwhile, Pakistan has attempted a malicious campaign by falsely claiming destruction of the S-400 system and airfields in Surat and Sirsa. We strongly reject these fabrications.”
Just hours earlier, India had struck six Pakistani air bases in response to Pakistan’s repeated provocations across the LoC and International Border.
The Border Security Force (BSF) also reported a decisive strike on a terrorist launch pad in Sialkot’s Looni, following unprovoked firing on BSF positions in the Jammu sector.
“Around 9 PM on May 9, Pakistan initiated unprovoked fire on BSF posts. We responded proportionately and inflicted major damage on Pakistan Rangers’ infrastructure,” the BSF stated.
“We destroyed the terrorist launch pad at Looni, District Sialkot, opposite Akhnoor. Our resolve to defend India’s sovereignty remains firm.”
The Ministry of External Affairs also rebuffed Pakistan’s recent statements alleging that Indian forces were attacking their own cities.
“Pakistan’s baseless claim that India is bombing its own cities like Amritsar is a deranged fantasy meant to mislead,” said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
“They are experts in spreading disinformation, as history shows.”
Earlier this week, under Operation Sindoor, Indian forces conducted precision missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan. These strikes came in retaliation for the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 civilians.
This response followed a large-scale violation of Indian airspace by Pakistan on May 7 and 8, when they launched hundreds of drones and heavy artillery across the LoC and International Border.
