A man was found fatally shot outside a Phillipsburg home early Monday morning, authorities said.
Officers responded around 4:30 a.m. to a Summit Avenue home after a resident called 911 reporting someone trying to force their way into the house, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.
When Phillipsburg police arrived, they discovered the man outside the home. The victim, identified as Kevin Clervil from East Orange, had been shot multiple times.
Clervil was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital Warren Campus but later died from his injuries, officials said.
Police confirmed the 911 caller and Clervil knew each other but did not release further details.
The Warren County Prosecutor’s Office and Phillipsburg Police Department are actively investigating the incident. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Phillipsburg Police Department’s non-emergency line at (908) 835-2002.
This shooting marks the third recent round of gunfire in Phillipsburg, a community also grappling with a fatal stabbing in recent weeks.
On May 15, police found evidence of two gunfire incidents in the 100 block of Broad Street and Memorial Parkway.
The day after, 26-year-old Hadiyah Peggins was fatally stabbed at a home on Anderson Street. Jamari E. Dortch, 28, from Maryland, has been charged with first-degree homicide in connection with that case.
