A 36-year-old Lapeer man died in a head-on collision on Monday morning, while another man was critically injured.
According to the Richfield Township Police Department, the collision occurred around 10:10 a.m. on North State Road near East Coldwater Road, north of Davison.
According to investigators, the Lapeer man was driving a 2005 Ford Taurus north on M-15 at high speeds when he crossed the center line and struck head-on with a Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by a 30-year-old Richfield Township resident.
According to police, the man from Lapeer died on the spot. The Richfield Township man had significant abdominal injuries and was taken by ambulance to Hurley Medical Center, where he was rated as critical.
Richfield Township police suspect the Lapeer man’s excessive speed had a role in the incident. Authorities are also looking into whether he was inebriated at the time of the incident.
