Harnett County Deputy Pleads No Contest in Crash That Killed Minnesota Couple

Deputy Kevin Letarte has pleaded no contest to charges stemming from a 2023 crash that killed a Minnesota couple during a high-speed chase.

The deadly incident happened in March 2023, when Letarte’s patrol vehicle collided with a pickup truck in Spring Lake, killing Brian and Patricia Finch.

Letarte pleaded two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle. He accepted the legal consequences without admitting guilt by entering a no-contest plea.

He was sentenced to 75 days in the Harnett County Jail and given 18 months of unsupervised probation, which was suspended.

Despite the conviction, the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Letarte will remain employed. He is allowed to continue working as a deputy, maintain and train with his assigned K-9, and ride with another deputy when needed.

Last year, the Finches’ family spoke with ABC11, sharing their grief over the tragic loss.
