A former Rock Island County employee has been accused of stealing over $900,000 from the county.
On Wednesday, May 14, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a house in New Windsor, Illinois, arresting Leisa A. Streeter, 62, who worked for Rock Island County for 34 years before retiring in 2024. From 2003 to 2024, she worked at Rock Island County Probation.
According to the Rock Island County State’s Attorney’s Office, in 2003, Streeter fabricated paperwork and opened a bogus bank account under the name “Rock Island County VIP” for personal use. She allegedly routed monies into this account under the premise of providing assistance through the Rock Island County Victim’s Impact Program. She is accused of withdrawing more than $900,000 and using the money to pay credit card bills, travel, and other expenses.
Streeter faced charges, including theft of government property, forgery, money laundering, and three counts of official misconduct. She is being jailed without bond while awaiting transfer to Rock Island County Jail.
