Boston police have identified a 27-year-old Belmont man, Andrew Oprian, as the suspect in a violent road rage attack that occurred late Friday night on Commonwealth Avenue.
According to authorities, Oprian allegedly chased another driver at high speed, causing the victim to crash near 1032 Commonwealth Ave. He then reportedly assaulted the driver and smashed their windshield and windows with a hatchet before fleeing the scene.
Oprian is facing charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and willful and malicious destruction of property. A warrant for his arrest was issued Tuesday by the Brighton division of Boston Municipal Court.
The Boston Police Department released Oprian’s identity after a weekend investigation and is continuing efforts to locate him. As of Tuesday evening, he remains at large.
Anyone with information about Oprian’s whereabouts is urged to contact Boston police.
