Authorities have reported that a firefighter in Fairview, New Jersey, who held the position of account treasurer, has been accused of embezzling $6,721 from his department.
Adrian Oceguera allegedly engaged in unauthorized ATM withdrawals and made purchases from the Fairview Fire Department’s Tiger Hose Company 1 during the period spanning January 2023 to November 2024, as stated by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.
The funds were reportedly utilized for Oceguera’s personal benefit, officials indicated.
It is important to clarify that the financial resources involved in this alleged theft were distinct from the taxpayer-funded account of the Fairview Fire Department, which is managed by the borough of Fairview, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Oceguera, a resident of Weehawken, faces charges of theft by unlawful taking and disposition following his arrest on Thursday in Paramus. The prosecutor’s office had received information regarding the suspected misconduct in January.
Following his arrest, Oceguera was issued a summons and subsequently released. Court records do not indicate that he has retained legal representation.
Efforts to contact the department for further comment on Monday were unsuccessful.
