Earlier this week, President Donald Trump proposed that illegal immigrants who accept his $1,000 self-deportation offer might have an opportunity to return legally to the U.S. in the future.
“No, it’s not the answer,” said Jessica Vaughan from the Center for Immigration Studies. “Legal immigration and illegal immigration right now are almost like two sides of the same coin.”
That coin, she emphasized, comes at a steep cost for the United States.
“Our country simply cannot absorb that many newcomers in such a short period of time,” Vaughan told KTRH. “And we no longer have the strong assimilation institutions we once did.”
She believes this is part of a broader strategy by the left to fundamentally transform America.
“The answer is to actually reduce the numbers and have an immigration system that selects people who are likely to succeed here—not just open the doors to anyone who wants to come.”
That, she says, is exactly what the Biden-Harris administration has done over the past four years—intentionally.
