NYPD: 17-year-old arrested in BB gun attack on woman holding baby in Staten Island

A juvenile was killed and an adult injured in a Friday night shooting near the McDougald Terrace community in Durham, according to local authorities.

Durham police responded to reports of gunfire around 8:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of Dayton Street. When officers arrived, they found two victims—a juvenile and an adult man—both suffering from gunshot wounds.

The juvenile was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The adult victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is being treated.

A nearby resident, Jontae Dunston, described hearing multiple shots and then seeing emergency personnel assisting two individuals on the ground.

“It’s not the residents inside here, it’s people coming into here shooting,” said Dunston. “To sit out here and have the children out here and for somebody to come around here, and be chaotic in our community. And put our children in danger. When’s it gonna stop?”

Police say the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and emphasized that there is currently no ongoing threat to the broader community.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact Investigator J. Sokal at 919-560-4440 ext. 29238 or reach out anonymously through Durham CrimeStoppers at www.durhamcrimestoppers.org or by calling 919-683-1200. Tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
