The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board has denied clemency for John Fitzgerald Hanson, a man convicted of murdering a Tulsa woman in 1999, clearing the path for his execution next month.
Hanson, 61, whose federal court records also list him as George John Hanson, was transferred from a federal prison in a move expedited by the Trump administration. On Wednesday, the five-member board voted 3-2 against granting clemency, and Hanson is now set to be executed by lethal injection on June 12.
Without the board’s recommendation, Governor Kevin Stitt is unable to reduce Hanson’s sentence to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.
