Two men from Essex have been jailed after attempting to smuggle nearly £600,000 worth of cannabis into Scotland on a transatlantic flight.
Jamaal Darbasie, 27, and George Manton, 19, both from Harlow, were caught at Glasgow Airport on March 10, 2024, after flying in from Toronto, Canada. Each had two suitcases packed with 120 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis, according to UK Border Force officers.
Experts estimated the total street value of the Class B drugs to be £592,716.
The pair pleaded guilty last month at the High Court in Glasgow to being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs. On Wednesday, Darbasie was sentenced to three years in prison at the High Court in Inverness, while Manton received a 30-month sentence.
The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) confirmed the convictions, which follow a broader crackdown on international drug smuggling operations.
