A California man convicted in a 2021 double homicide was sentenced Tuesday to two life terms by a Mobile County judge.
Judge Jay York handed Ardis Perez two life sentences—one for each count of murder. According to the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office, the sentences will be served concurrently.
Perez was found guilty last month in the shooting deaths of Dwan Williams and Andre Carter, both Mississippi residents. The victims’ bodies were discovered in an SUV on Rangeline Road in November 2021.
Prosecutors said the killings followed an altercation at a Prichard nightclub earlier that night.
Perez’s co-defendant, Keith Richmond, pleaded guilty and received a 20-year sentence.
The District Attorney’s Office had requested consecutive life sentences, but the court opted for concurrent terms instead. Despite this, prosecutors and the victims’ families expressed relief that justice was served.
The case was once considered cold, with arrests not made until two years after the crime. Family members said they were “thankful” the case finally reached a resolution.
