A 23-year-old man from Raritan is facing serious charges after authorities say he uploaded child sexual abuse material to a messaging app and was later found in possession of illegal drugs.
According to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office,Joseph Vega Ramirez was arrested last Tuesday following an investigation that uncovered multiple explicit photographs of minors allegedly uploaded by him.
In addition to the digital evidence, law enforcement officers reportedly seized approximately 34 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms and 35 grams of pills believed to be ecstasy during the arrest.
Ramirez is currently being held at the Somerset County Jail and is awaiting a detention hearing. Prosecutors have not disclosed the name of the messaging platform involved.
This case adds to a recent wave of arrests across New Jersey related to both child exploitation and drug possession. The investigation remains ongoing.
