New York State Police Apprehend Two Suspects In Separate Fleeing Incidents

New York State Police apprehended two people in separate incidents involving suspects who ran from traffic stops, and both cases were resolved following thorough investigations.

The first incident took place on September 1, 2024, at approximately 10:18 p.m., when officers attempted to stop a black BMW speeding on the Southern State Parkway near Exit 22.

The motorist originally refused to stop, resulting in a brief chase that ended when traffic forced the vehicle to stop.

As a trooper began to depart their marked patrol vehicle, the BMW accelerated and collided with the police car’s driver’s side door.

The trooper received minor, non-life-threatening injuries and was able to return to duty.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation conducted an eight-month investigation before identifying and arresting Oumar Janneh, 21, on May 17.

Janneh is charged with second-degree assault (a class D felony), as well as unlawful fleeing and reckless endangerment (both class A misdemeanors).

On April 18, at approximately 1:16 a.m., troopers attempted to stop a gray Nissan going eastbound near exit 20N in the Town of Hempstead for possessing a false registration.

The Nissan initially halted in the left lane before driving away, leading to a brief pursuit that ultimately ended.

The vehicle was later discovered abandoned and locked.

On May 15, police detained Wilfredo Cabrera, 24, of Brooklyn, after conducting a comprehensive investigation.

Cabrera was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree illegal evading of a police officer, and careless driving (all class A misdemeanors), and a number of vehicle and traffic code infractions.

Cabrera is set to appear in court on June 4.
