A D.C. man has been sentenced to 24 years in jail for the murder of his wife, bringing a heartbreaking end to a case that shook the Northeast community last year. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, 48-year-old Wyatt Swan pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed in Teresa Francisco’s death and will serve five years of supervised release after his prison sentence.
The sad occurrence took place on October 1, 2024, in the couple’s apartment and ended in a nearby parking lot, where Swan fatally shot Francisco after chasing her down. Swan initially evaded law enforcement after the incident but was apprehended the next day with the assistance of the Prince George’s County Police Department.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith recognized the combined efforts that resulted in Swan’s punishment following a comprehensive investigation. Their announcements also emphasized the support of the Prince George’s County Police Department, the Metropolitan Police Department’s rigorous investigation, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s legal rigor.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory Evans, credited by Pirro and Smith for his part in pursuing the case, helped to deliver justice in court, where the Honorable Jason Park of the D.C. Superior Court issued the multi-decade sentence.
