A man has been sentenced to prison for the brutal killing of his roommate’s dog at his Dracut, Massachusetts, home.
Anthony Segnini, 36, of Dracut, was arrested in December 2023 and indicted by a grand jury in September for the death of the 8-pound Yorkshire Terrier at a residence on Sunset Road.
When the dog’s owner arrived home from work on December 11, 2023, she discovered it lifeless and covered in blood and feces. She took the critter to a nearby animal hospital, where it was confirmed deceased.
According to authorities, the dog suffered catastrophic injuries, including shattered ribs, collapsed lungs, and blunt-force damage to the brain.
Authorities identified Segnini as the individual responsible for the dog’s damage. He was the dog owner’s roommate.
On May 6, Segnini pled guilty in Middlesex Superior Court and was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail, with nine months spent and the remainder suspended for two years. If he breaches probation during his suspended sentence, he may be forced to serve the remainder of his jail sentence.
