An 18-year-old man from northeast Missouri is behind bars after being accused of raping and sexually abusing a girl.

Cameron Joseph Hunter, of Bevier, was arrested Monday, according to a release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

He faces charges including first-degree rape, a felony; second-degree sexual abuse; and third-degree kidnapping.

The arrest followed an investigation by the Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control (DDCC), which started Saturday after Macon County Sheriff Kevin Shoemaker requested a probe into sexual assault allegations in Bevier.

Court documents reveal that Hunter is accused of inappropriately touching the girl and having sexual intercourse without her consent.

Additionally, the records show Hunter was recently released from juvenile detention on May 3.

Macon County Prosecuting Attorney Josh Meisner filed the charges against Hunter on Tuesday.

Hunter is held at the Macon County Jail on a $250,000 cash-only bond and is prohibited from contacting the alleged victim.
