A fiery crash involving a tanker truck caused major disruptions on Interstate 95 in Harnett County early Monday morning, shutting down both directions of the highway near Dunn and creating miles of delays.
The crash occurred just before 5:30 a.m. near Exit 71 for Long Branch Road. Both northbound and southbound lanes were closed for nearly two hours, with southbound lanes reopening around 7:30 a.m. and full access restored by 10 a.m.
WRAL crews on the scene reported significant damage to the tanker truck, which appeared partially scorched. Multiple vehicles were reportedly involved, although authorities have not yet confirmed the total number or whether there were any injuries.
Traffic in the area was severely backed up during the morning commute as emergency crews responded to the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
