CLAYTON — A total of 57 players in the third through eighth grade participated in the 31st annual Northmont Grand Slam Baseball Camp held June 1 through June 4 from 9 a.m. until noon at Northmont High School.
Campers learned fielding skills, base running, pitching, took batting practice, assembled into teams and played against each other with a camp instructor pitching to batters on each team.
Instruction on every aspect of baseball was taught with an emphasis on sound fundamentals that will help each boy at any level of competition. The goal of the camp is for each player to leave camp with better technique and a better understanding of the game of baseball.
Camp instructors included Northmont Head Coach Chuck Harlow, Varsity Assistant Coach Jim Smith, Varsity Assistant Coach Ross Kincaid, Reserve Coach Mark Kincaid, Freshmen Coach Pat Danko as well as current Northmont baseball players.
At Northmont, Coach Harlow’s teams are known for their discipline and sound fundamentals. Coach Harlow’s record as a head coach is 582 wins and 259 losses. This includes 13 League Championships, nine Sectional Titles and three District Titles.
Coach Harlow has coached 67 players at Northmont who have played college baseball and seven who have been drafted professionally. In 2014, Coach Harlow was inducted to the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association hall of Fame.
