CLAYTON — A draft plan for the future development of Clayton is being presented to the city council on August 3 starting at 6:30 p.m. Residents are urged to attend the meeting to hear from staff on their efforts thus far and to provide citizen input.
PLAN Clayton is the initiative to provide a vision for the future development of Clayton, created collaboratively by the city stakeholders: residents and land owners, business owners, city staff, city council, and other important organizations within the city.
Ultimately, the plan is only as strong as the input received from all the stakeholders, especially residents. The plan is currently only in draft form and the city encourages everyone who wants to provide feedback to attend this hearing or review the plan and provide feedback via the different opportunities provided. All feedback will influence how the final plan is ultimately crafted. The plan will also provide a land use map, and recommendations for policies and strategies to implement the land use plan.
“PLAN Clayton is a process that gives the community a voice on how we would like our city to develop in the next 20-50 years,” said Jennifer Barclay, city planner. “Staff has worked and will continue to work to gather as much input as possible from our citizens. Thus far we held one-on-one interviews, hosted an online survey, held surveys in the administration building lobby, and hosted a 4-day workshop and we are not stopping there. We encourage our citizens to join us on August 3 or view online the presentation of the Draft Plan. We will use any input gathered from the review of the Draft Plan to further strengthen the final plan.”
In addition, Barclay also stated it is a common misconception that Land Use and Zoning are one in the same. This Plan is not a rezoning proposal but rather a future land use plan for the next 20-50 years. Land Use is simply an educated and statistical prediction of how the City may develop in the future. Property cannot be rezoned without the property owners consent and proper public hearing and process.
