Gaylor makes 175th donation

DAYTON — Clayton donor David Gaylor gets tickled just thinking about comedian Martin Short impersonating Katharine Hepburn, or playing odd characters like Ed Grimley with his catchphrase, “I must say” that Short used as the title of his autobiography.

Gaylor brought along the book for fun reading while making his milestone 175 lifetime donation Wednesday, Aug. 3 at the Dayton Community Blood Center.

“I thought I was getting close to my goal of 200 donations,” Gaylor said about his new milestone. “And I’ve set a goal for 300.”

Gaylor admires Martin Short for keeping a positive outlook despite tragedies in his life. Gaylor has been donating platelets and plasma since 2003 and has helped many patients along the way, but prefers to give credit to others.

“I think there’s a lot to be said about the staff here,” he said. “They are very personable. It’s never clinical – it’s a very nice atmosphere. It’s nice to feel you’re with friends here, you’re never a stranger, and it makes you want to come back.”
