BUTLER TWP. — The Northmont Rotary recently installed new officers for the 2016-2017 year. An installation dinner, catered by Mrs. B’s Catering and coordinated by Rotarian David Wolfe, was held June 28 at Aullwood Farm.

After an invocation by Salem Church of God Lead Pastor Steve Southards, an outstanding dinner was enjoyed by the Rotarians, their spouses and guests. Outgoing President Sandy Williams then reviewed the accomplishments of the club over the year and thanked the various board members for their work in the numerous areas of club service. New officers were sworn in by Rotary District Governor Bill Shula.

David Wolfe, club secretary, was called upon to present the Awards for Perfect Attendance. Rotarians are encouraged to make up meetings that they miss by attending a meeting at another club. This can be done at another local club or done elsewhere in the country or world if the Rotarian is traveling. In this way, they remain connected to Rotary and develop other Rotary relationships, even when they are unable to attend their home club. Perfect attendance for a number of years is unusual. However, Robert Wolfe, a charter member of the Northmont Rotary, has achieved 40 years of perfect attendance.

Tony Thomas, assistant superintendent for Northmont City Schools, has served as the Interact Club liaison and reviewed the contributions of the club. Interact is the Rotary sponsored high school service organization. Joe Hartenstein, attendance officer for Northmont, is the club advisor and provided a list of the club’s activities and service work. Jarrod Brumbaugh, Northmont Middle School principal, will assume the liaison duties from Thomas.

The Rotarian of the Year Award is a coveted award that recognizes the efforts of a Rotarian that has gone above and beyond in the previous year to serve the club. Exemplifying the motto of “Service Above Self,” the individual is selected by the past Rotarians of the Year. The new honoree’s name is kept secret until it is disclosed at the installation dinner.

By club tradition, the previous years’ recipient presents the next person to receive the award. Dr. Sarah Zatik, Superintendent of Northmont City Schools was the 2015 Rotarian of the Year. After citing the many accomplishments and hard work (often unrecognized), Dr. Zatik revealed that Cathy McGrail-Klingler was the 2016 recipient.

Incoming President Dr. Brad Baughman then accepted the responsibility for club leadership from Williams. In his presidential address, he recognized the club’s accomplishments and encouraged members to find even more ways to serve and to invite others to serve with them. The new officers that will be serving with President Baughman include: Tony Thomas (President-Elect), David Wolfe (Secretary), Steve Henne (Treasurer), Mark Vermillion (Club Service Director and Greeter Chair), Cathy McGrail-Klingler (Community Service Director), Jarrod Brumbaugh (Vocational Service Director and Interact Chair), Sandy Williams (Past President and Rotary Foundation Chair), Scott Rolfes (Membership Chair), Mike Barrow (Public Relations Chair), and Joe Rosengarten (Sergeant-at-Arms).
