ENGLEWOOD — On Saturday, April 23 Englewood Little League held its Opening Day ceremonies. Three outstanding local citizens were honored as the 2016 Grand Marshals of the morning parade of teams.

US Navy World War II Veteran Joe Young, US Army Vietnam Veteran Gus Bardonaro, and US Army Vietnam Veteran Bob Weaver headed the parade and were honored on the field in the opening ceremonies.

Fifty-one teams lined the parade in a procession to Centennial Park, where all players proceeded to the main field to start the day. Opening ceremonies included a welcome by President Pete Bardonaro, a special appearance by the Dayton Dragons’ “Heater,” a plaque presentation to the Grand Marshals, followed by the National Anthem and Little League Pledge.

A new bike donated by Pepsi was given away, and a bounce house was enjoyed by the kids all day long. The ceremonial first pitch for softball was thrown by Molly Skinner with Sam McGilton catching.

Baseball’s first pitch was thrown by Hunter Smart with Caden Islam catching. Teams played their first games of the season all day, both at Centennial Park and Oberer Fields.
