ENGLEWOOD — Northmont’s Board of Education at Monday night’s meeting appointed Assistant Superintendent Tony Thomas as the school district’s next superintendent beginning this summer with the departure of Dr. Sarah Zatik.
Thomas will officially take over as superintendent on August 1.
According to Board President Linda Blum, “Tony is an experienced superintendent who is driven by his love for children and a desire to ensure continued success for Northmont City Schools.”
Mr. Thomas’ experience, prior to his arrival at Northmont three years ago, includes nine years as superintendent at Tri-Village Local Schools. Before Tri-Village, he served as a teacher and then principal at Miami Valley Career Technology Center.
“I’m following in a long line of excellent leadership here at Northmont City Schools,” Thomas said. “It is humbling and exciting to be granted the opportunity to follow in those footsteps. I think a lot of this community, which is attractive to me. I’ve know the Northmont community for a long time and I am just very excited of becoming more involved in the community.”
Since coming to Northmont, Mr. Thomas has formed a partnership with the Air Force Research Lab to bring advanced technology to Northmont students, as well as advancing the professional development opportunities for staff. Mr. Thomas has collaborated to increase the number of college courses offered at Northmont and supported the spread of STEM and Project Based Learning throughout the district. He has been a past president of the Northmont Optimist Club and is currently the president-elect. He is also a member of the Northmont Rotary Board.
“Mr. Thomas embraces strategic planning and believes in the importance of engaging parents and our community as our partners,” Blum stated. “We look forward to a seamless transition this summer as Tony assumes his role as Northmont City Schools’ superintendent. We know he will be a visionary leader who will greatly impact our continued excellence.”
