ENGLEWOOD — Helen Everhart, a resident of Brookdale Englewood Senior Living Solutions since June 2013, celebrated her 100th birthday last Friday surrounded by family and friends.

Xenia-based musician David Mullikan led everyone in singing happy birthday to Everhart before a series of special presentations were made.

“Thank you everyone for coming out for such a special day,” said Brookdale Englewood Executive Director Charlie Thompson. “This is one of the privileges we get to experience every so often working in this industry.”

Englewood Mayor Patricia Burnside read and presented a proclamation to Everhart in observance of her milestone birthday.

“Helen, I am glad to come to your birthday party,” Burnside said. “This is a very special birthday party and I see you have a lot of family around you, which is good.”

Burnside related that she had a grandfather who lived to be 105; a grandmother on the other side of the family who lived to be 98 and her husband’s mother lived to be 101.

The proclamation read, “Whereas, Helen Everhart has joined the ranks of centurion, and whereas she has been a resident of Brookdale since June of 2013, and whereas Helen cherishes her visits from her daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons, and whereas she is excited to be turning 100 and I am excited to be included in her celebration, and whereas I could not be more pleased to wish her a happy 100th birthday, now therefor, I, Patricia Burnside, mayor of the city of Englewood, Ohio do hereby proclaim great honor and recognition upon Helen Everhart on behalf of myself, and the citizens of Englewood, Ohio.”

Thompson read a letter from Brookdale CEO T. Andrew Smith congratulating Everhart on her birthday. A portion of the letter said, “You are a living link to our history and a valued member of the Brookdale family. From all of us at Brookdale, please accept our very best wishes for a very happy 100th birthday and the desire that you continue to lead a life that is filled with joy and meaning. Thanks again for allowing us to be a part of it.”

Thompson also presented a plaque to Everhart from President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. “We are pleased to join your family and friends in wishing you a happy 100th birthday. As you celebrate this extraordinary milestone we hope you reflect on the many memories you have made over the past century. Your generation has shown the courage to persevere through depression and war and the vision to broaden our liberties through changing times. We are grateful for your contributions to the American story and wish you all the best for the coming year.”

Thompson invited everyone to hang out and enjoy the musical entertainment and refreshments and thanked everyone for coming out to attend the special celebration.
