CLAYTON — Northmont graduate Jayson Peoples will be attending Muskingum University this fall.

A three-year letterman in basketball, Peoples was a team captain, All Conference Second Team, District 9 All-Star, Athlete of the Month for January, was named team Most Valuable Player, scored the most 3-point baskets in the conference in the 2014-2015 season with 60, the most 3-pointers in a single season in school history.

He averaged 14 points per game during his senior year and graduated with a 3.7 GPA. Peoples was selected to receive the Bill Yensel Scholarship in the amount of $10,000, the most money the scholarship has ever awarded an athlete. In addition, he will receive approximately $18,000 in scholarship money from Muskingum.

He was also a one year letterman in track.

Always giving back to the community, Peoples helps out at basketball camps and helped his father, James Peoples, coach the 8th grade Northmont basketball team.

“I am proud to say Jayson is my son and we are very proud of his accomplishments and believe he has a very bright future,” said James Peoples. “Muskingum was a great fit for him. He loved the campus, facilities, teachers and coaches.”

Jayson currently works as a trainer and goes with his father to the middle school on a regular basis.

His mother, Dawn, is a registered nurse and attended Bowling Green State University. His sister, Chelsea, attend Lourdes for Nursing. His brother, Jordan, attends community college and is working on obtaining a business degree. Father, James, is a senior program analyst and attended Eastern Michigan University.

Jayson will be majoring in engineering science and athletic training while attending Muskingum.
