ENGLEWOOD — Powered by strong pitching performances by Abby Bardonaro and Molly Skinner, and clutch hitting from Hannah Roberts, the Englewood Little League Girls Majors Softball (11-12) won the district title.
Troubled by errors in a game one loss to Eaton, the Englewood Little League girls overcame the same obstacle in extra innings Friday night in dramatic comeback fashion. Abby Bardonaro put forth a 7 inning, complete game performance allowing six hits while striking out 11. Bardonaro’s final strikeout ended the game and secured Englewood’s victory.
At the plate, Englewood was led by clutch hitting by Hannah Roberts who went an impressive 7 for 8 at the plate during this tournament, forcing Eaton to intentionally walk her five times. The girls from Englewood battled back throughout the night grabbing clutch RBI hits from Sarah Menker, Taylor Pendleton, Ellie Coppock, and Janelle Tipton.
In the decisive Final Game Saturday afternoon, Englewood’s defense tightened up. Backing up Molly Skinner’s solid pitching performance, the Englewood girls didn’t let the ball escape their gloves and put forth an incredible defensive and offensive performance defeating Eaton 17-3 for the district title.
Clutch and selective hitting, to include Hannah Roberts roping an intentional walk pitch into the right field gap, set the stage as Englewood hit in groups, scoring multiple times in each inning. The contributions were countless as each team member stepped up and delivered to bring Englewood Little League the District 8 Majors (11-12) Softball Title.
