DAYTON — Northmont’s girls track team placed 3rd Friday at the Dayton Edwin C. Moses Relays while the boys team placed 9th out of 18 teams.

“We have a very solid team this year,” said Northmont Girls Coach Joe Barnes. “We were very close to finishing second and I am very proud of the girls with they have performed this year. We are so deep and that is why our relays are so much better than last year. I think we well over doubled our points this year. We had 25 points last year so I am very proud of what the girls have accomplished so far.”

The girls placed 5th in the 6400 relay (Melissa Barrett, Clara Leedy, Aubrey Kosak and Kimea Lawrence) with a time of 23:13.4.

Elisha Cooper, Mattea Parker, Hunter Renner and Jayla Tarver placed 7th in the 800 relay in 1:50.59.

The shuttle hurdle relay team of Leila Hill, Naomi Baker, Bethany Thompson and Ross took 1st place in 1:08.03.

“That shuttle hurdle team is unbelievable,” Barnes added. “They are great team and I think they are only going to improve. All of our relay teams are going to improve. Even though we did so well in year’s past this is the point in the season where we faded as a team, but this year I think we are growing and getting better.”

The 3200 relay team of Kosak, Anderson, Maiken and Leedy finished 10tjh in 11:11.71.

In the 1600 sprint medley relay Tabatha Hanna, Hunter Renner, Britney Amin and Melissa Barrett placed 3rd in 4:29.62.

The 400 relay team of Lauren Christian, Jayla Tarver, Allison Moede and Jaylin Biggs placed 6th in 51.95 seconds.

The 4000 meter distance medley relay team of Taylor Evans, Denissa Sly, Jordan Rife and Kimea Lawrence placed 4th in 13:57.66.

Allison Moede and Denissa Sly tied for 5th in the high jump at 4-feet, 6-inches.

Saraea Spurgin tied for 3rd in the pole vault 9-feet, 6-inches.

Claire Pilgrim placed 5th in the long jump at 15-feet, 5.5-inches and Naomi Baker was 10th at 14-feet, 7-inches.

Hooks finished 18th in the shot put at 27-feet, 6.25-inches while Selman was 27th at 24-feet, 4.25-inches.

The boys team didn’t fare as well finishing in the middle of the pack in the team standings, but Coach Tony Broering feels the team saw much improvement.

“We actually made big improvements on all our relay teams,” Broering said. “All the relay teams ran their fastest times of the year in the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400 and shuttle hurdle. Christian Champen broke the school record in the pole vault so we are hoping at the Wayne invite he will do well.”

Champen placed 2nd in the pole vault at the Dayton Relays by clearing 14-feet, 6-inches.
