Swim team scores narrow win over Chaminade-Julienne

ENGLEWOOD — On January 2 at the Kleptz YMCA the Northmont swim team defeated Chaminade-Julienne by 2 points with a score of 168 to 166 points to avenge last year’s defeat.

Swimmers winning two individual events included: Austin Pearce (200 yard freestyle and 100 yard butterfly), Justin Parrett (200 yard Individual Medley and 100 yard breast stroke), Delaney Schreiber (500 yard freestyle and 100 yard backstroke), and Fynn Roberts (200 yard freestyle and 100 yard breast stroke).

The following swimmers won one individual event: Brianna Gracey (100 yard freestyle), Justin DeLano (500 yard freestyle). Gracey and DeLano both placed 2nd in the 100 yard butterfly.

Northmont won four relays: 200 yard medley relay (Tyler Ohlemacher, Parrett, Pearce, DeLano), 200 yard freestyle relay (Jake Bowers, Jim Studebaker, Eric Woods, Ohlemacher), 400 yard freestyle relay (Gracey, Cassidy Smith, Roberts, Schreiber), and 400 yard freestyle relay (Bowers, DeLano, Parrett, Pearce).

On December 19 at Wright State University, Northmont boys finished 3rd overall at the Butler Invitational beating Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) rivals Vandalia Butler, Kettering Fairmont, Troy, and West Carrollton. The girls were 6th overall beating GWOC competitors Troy and West Carrollton. Overall with a combined score, the swimmers were 4th out of 12 teams.

The Thunderbolts placed in many events in the top ten during the meet. Justin Parrett was 2nd in 200 yard Individual Medley and broke the first school record of the season in the event. He also placed 2nd in the 100 yard breast stroke.

Delaney Schreiber took 2nd place in the 100 yard backstroke and 3rd in the 500 yard freestyle. Austin Pearce placed 2nd in the 100 yard freestyle and 4th in the 200 yard freestyle. Fynn Roberts finished 2nd in the 100 yard breast stroke and 7th in the 200 yard Individual Medley. Justin DeLano placed 2nd in the 500 yard freestyle and 9th in the 100 yard backstroke. Brianna Gracey was 3rd in the 100 yard breast stroke and 9th in the 100 yard butterfly. Jake Bowers finished 6th in the 100 yard breast stroke and 8th in the 200 yard freestyle. Tyler Ohlemacher was 8th in both the 100 yard backstroke and 100 yard freestyle. Cassidy Smith placed 10th in the 100 yard backstroke.

The boys 200 yard medley relay (Ohlemacher, Parrett, Pearce, DeLano) were 3rd and the 400 yard freestyle relay (Parrett, Bowers, DeLano, Pearce) placed 2nd. On the girls side, the 200 yard medley relay (Schreiber, Roberts, Gracey, Arabella McDonald) were 6th and the 400 yard freestyle relay (Gracey, Roberts, McDonald, Schreiber) placed 4th. The boys 200 yard freestyle relay was 6th (Josiah English, Eric Woods, Bowers, Ohlemacher) and the girls 200 yard freestyle relay finished 7th (McKenzie Stefanoff, Courtney Eilerman, Isabel Stoffel, Smith).

The last home meet of the season will be on Saturday, January 9 against Troy at the Kleptz YMCA at 6 p.m. Five seniors will be honored during the swim meet.
