LEBANON — Northmont played lights out defense Monday night at Lebanon and kept the undefeated Warriors off the scoreboard for 69 minutes and 41 seconds.

Senior midfielder Isabel Shey booted a rocket into the upper right side of the net from 18 yards out with 10:19 remaining in the game, a totally indefensible shot, to lift Lebanon to a 1-0 victory. The shot was well out of reach of Northmont goalkeeper Ashley Trottier, who thwarted several shots on goal most of the night.

With the victory Lebanon improved to 7-0-2 while Northmont fell to 5-4-1.

“Those types of goals happen, but I was proud of our effort,” said Northmont Coach Ted Mergler. “I felt like our girls gave 100 percent. There wasn’t one girl I would question over their effort or their heart. They were in this game to win it. It’s just didn’t go our way tonight. Lebanon is a great team and they were just able to capitalize on one of their opportunities, but not until about ten minutes remained, so we almost held them off.”

Northmont will have to put the loss in its rear view mirror as the Lady Bolts prepare for their second division match of the season this Wednesday against Wayne.

“If we beat Wayne we are guaranteed at least third place in the division but hopefully we can keep on winning and move up in the division rankings,” Mergler added. “That will be a good game. Wayne has a team comparable to ours. Both programs are similar but if we play like we did tonight I know we would win.”
