CLAYTON — The Lady Yellow Jackets got a first half goal Monday from Emily Wisenmayer and hung on to defeat Northmont, 1-0.

With the victory Sidney improved to 6-1-1 while Northmont fell to 3-3-1.

The Lady Jackets kept the pressure on most of the second half with repeated runs at the Northmont goal, but for the most part the game was played in the mid field area. The few times the Lady Bolts penetrated the Sidney defense to get off a shot, the opportunities were squandered with kicks right to the goalkeeper or well wide of the net.

“I give Northmont credit. They had some really good girls up top that were giving our girls trouble, and I really rely on my defense,” said Sidney Coach Stacey Goffena. “All my defenders are back from last year and I’ve got one freshman that came in and did an excellent job, so they were able to hang tight. My keeper did a nice job tonight. We were just looking to get it out and get it forward ourselves.”

Goffena felt it was an evenly matched game but noted most of the possessions by both team took place from the thirty yard line on both sides of midfield.

“There was a lot of possession in the middle by both teams, so it was pretty evenly matched,” she added.

Northmont Coach Ted Mergler felt his team did not put forth its best effort.

“We just didn’t play our best. That’s just the bottom line,” Mergler noted. “Not take anything away from Sidney, we just didn’t come out ready to play soccer today. We had a hard time just doing the simple things and unfortunately when we decided to put in an effort it was a little too late. We will just regroup and hopefully be ready when we open division play on Wednesday against Fairmont.”
