LIBERTY TWP. — In less than ideal playing conditions Friday night Northmont’s varsity football team lost its third consecutive non-conference game, this time to Lakota East to the tune of 42-14.
The Thunderhawks engineered three long scoring drives in the opening quarter to take a 21-0 lead. The first drive was an eight play, 75 yard drive capped by a nine yard run by Silas Ingram.
Next came a seven play, 84 yard drive with Lakota East quarterback rambling 54 yards for a touchdown. With 1:35 remaining in the opening quarter the Thunderhawks struck again. After a Northmont punt Tyler Glenn broke off a 78 yard touchdown run and with Tyler VanFossen tacking on his third extra point of the evening Lakota East was up by three touchdowns.
Northmont answered with a 72 yard touchdown run by Avery Miliner just 13 seconds before the end of the first quarter. Nick Winchester tacked on the point after to make it 21-7.
The Thunderhawks bolstered their lead with a six play, 80 yard drive in the second quarter marked by another big gainer. On second down and 10 at the Thunderhawks’ 20, Kaleb Lepper busted loose for a 65 yard run to give East a first down at Northmont’s’ 15. Four plays later Tyler Glenn scored on a one yard run and with VanFossen’s extra point the Thunderhawks increased their lead to 28-7 with 9:48 remaining in the half.
Lakota East bolstered its lead in the third quarter. After forcing Northmont to punt from its own 10 yard line the Thunderhawks took possession at the Bolts 45 yard line. On first down Lepper ran 23 yards for a first down at the 22. Three plays later Ingram scored on a 17 yard run and VanFossen’s point after made it 35-7.
The Thunderhawks scored on a five play, 52 yard drive with 10:58 remaining in the game on a 40 yard run by Lepper to make it 42-7.
Northmont’s final score came on five play, 66 yard drive capped by 28 yard touchdown pass by Brenden Reck to Jabari Perkins with 6:30 remaining. Winchester’s extra point made the final tally 42-14.
East racked up 513 yards rushing and 24 passing compared to 132 rushing yards by Northmont and 140 passing.
