Having been in the position where I have worked in the F.I.S.H. food pantry for 21 years, I have been made aware of how to shop for the food pantry.
Try to shop for items that do not need additional ingredients. Entrees that use milk, butter, eggs and meats to prepare aren’t the best items to purchase. A number of residents that come to the pantry have nothing in their refrigerator and no money in their wallet to grocery shop.
Canned items such as tomatoes, meats, fruits, vegetables, and soups plus crackers, powdered and canned milk are great. Dried pastas, oatmeal, sauces and other items that require only water for preparation are a big help to the families.
Something else I have been aware of concerning those families who receive food stamps; the stamps cover food products but not other essentials like laundry soap, cleaning products and personal care items. We have made a conscious effort to include some of these items in every emergency food basket.
Our Clothes Closet is open to residents of Northmont every Thursday from 9-2. Utility bill is required for proof of residency. We also accept new, gently used and clean clothing.
We have set a goal of 500 new toys for Christmas 2016. Consider us when checking the sale flyers.
The need for monetary donations is always great. Donations can be mailed to Northmont F.I.S.H., P.O. Box 102, Englewood, Oh. 45322. Food, clothing and toy donations can be dropped off at the pantry which is located at 265 Smith Dr., Englewood.
