Staff Report

DAYTON — The best authentic Latin food and music will be back in the Miami Valley on Saturday, August 20 from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. during the Hispanic Heritage Festival at Riverscape MetroPark, 237 E. Monument Ave., Dayton. The event is open and free to the public.

Festival goers can expect a day filled with family fun which includes plenty of children’s activities, Zumba, cultural exhibits, resource booths, free health care screenings, raffles and merchandise, and food vendors. The festival starts at 11 a.m., but the official entertainment starts at noon with a parade through nearby Dayton streets and ending at Riverscape.

As in previous years, the festival will serve as the Puerto Rican, American and Caribbean Organization’s main fundraising activity that supports charitable services and funds educational scholarships, primarily within the Hispanic community in and around Dayton. As a non-profit organization, PACO is dedicated to the success of its community and its goal is to raise the level of multi-cultural awareness and achieve a higher level of community acceptance of the Hispanic/Latino culture.

An exciting entertainment line-up is scheduled. Highlights include former Willie Rosario Orchestra lead singers Guillo Rivera and Chamaco Rivera, Group K-ñon (Merengue) and Son Del Caribe performing the best of Salsa great Hector Lavoe. The group Hot Enchiladas-Tribute to Santana, Rondalla Puerto Rico, Grupo Caribe, Orgullo Mexicano and Ramon & Leslie Perez (father and daughter Mexican music) complete the performers line-up. Throughout the day a variety of music and dance entertainment, including dance lessons, will be offered, and you will definitely move your feet and clap your hands if you are lucky enough to catch the Percussion Jam Session!

The festival is made possible thanks to the generous contributions from Kroger, The Event Connections, Noir, La Vanguardia Hoy, BTAS, Care Source, Dos Equis, Synchrony Financial, Houser Asphalt and Concrete, Wright State University Office of Latino Affairs, BRAVO SCM, Mathew Scarr CPA, Debbie Staffing, El Meson, Premier Health, WYSO and the Dayton Dragons.
