COLUMBUS — On November 9 at the Ohio Recorders Association Winter Conference in Columbus, Montgomery County Recorder Willis E. Blackshear was elected president of the association.

In the 89 years that the association has been in existence, only three other Montgomery County Recorders have been elected to this honor, including the most recent Vicki Pegg in 1985.

Each office of the Ohio Recorders Association (ORA) serves a one year term. Mr. Blackshear has served as Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President before being elected as the first African American President of the ORA for 2016.

“I am truly honored to be given this leadership opportunity and I look forward to guiding the association as we work together to benefit the counties that we serve,” says Mr. Blackshear.

Willis Blackshear has served the citizens of Montgomery County for over 30 years and is actively seeking re-election to his third term as Recorder in November of 2016.

In recognition of his efforts as Recorder, Mr. Blackshear received the National Association of Social Workers Public Official of the Year Award (2009), Top Ten African American Male Award (2009), The League of Women Voters Making Democracy Work Award (2010) and the Montgomery County Democratic Party’s Democrat of the Year Award (2014).

In addition to his elected duties, Mr. Blackshear currently serves on the following boards: Miami Valley Fair Housing Center, Sinclair Paralegal and Tawawa Community Development Corporation.
