CLAYTON — On Sunday, Aug. 30 Salem Church of God Lead Pastor Steve Southards and other staff members as well as members of the church congregation participated in a “Love Does” outreach to the community.

Nearly 30 teams performed projects such as washing cars, giving haircuts, maintenance work, visiting shut-ins and first-responders, and assisting with a breakfast and other activities at Fort McKinley United Methodist Church.

“We believe that church is not the building but the people,” Southards said. “Jesus has always been about bringing life and hope, and our prayer is that we can follow His example and bring that same hope and love to the city of Dayton. We love our city!”

The Salem family met for an abbreviated worship service at 9:30 that morning before moving on to “Loves Doe”s activities. Project participants will include children, youth, families, senior adults and, in some cases, specialized laborers.

Leaders were recruited for each project, then members of the Salem congregation were encouraged to sign up for a team of their choice. More than 800 participated in “Love Does” activities.
