CLAYTON — Police Officer Jack Daugherty was recognized for 25 years of service at last Thursdays’ city council meeting.

Daugherty began his career on January 4, 1987 with the former Randolph Township Police Department and officially retired on Aug. 2 of this year. During his career Daugherty was a traffic crash reconstructionist, an evidence technician, a field training officer, and one of the city’s original bike patrol officers. He recently received recognition as the Ohio School Resource Officers’ Association ‘School Resource Officer of the Year’ for 2015 and also received the South Community Behavioral Healthcare ‘Community Service Award’ for his assistance and work at Northmont High School.

Daugherty will return to Northmont High School on Oct. 1 as the School Resource officer.

“We wish Jack a short, happy retirement and look forward to his return,” said Chief Matt Hamlin.

Mayor Joyce Deitering presented Daugherty with a plaque that read, “In grateful acknowledgment and deep appreciation for your loyal and dedicated years of service, August 7, 1990 to July 31, 2015.”

Road Department employee Jeff Sexton also retired after serving the city from July 13, 1998 to June 30, 2015 and Firefighter Sam Cox who served the fire department from June 7, 1978 to July 31, 2015. Neither Sexton nor Cox could attend the meeting and will be recognized for their service at a later date.
