A third person has been charged in connection with a violent brawl and subsequent shooting that erupted during a Mother’s Day brunch at a Raleigh restaurant.
The incident took place Sunday at Big Ed’s on Falls of Neuse Road. According to authorities, 48-year-old Adrienne Thorpe Barnes of Wake Forest was arrested after she allegedly punched two women and pulled one of them by the hair during the altercation. Barnes faces two counts of simple assault and an additional charge of accessory after the fact for allegedly assisting her 23-year-old son, Alexander Barnes, in fleeing the scene following the brawl.
Alexander Barnes was arrested on Monday after authorities determined he fired shots during the incident. A restaurant manager was reportedly struck by gunfire and injured in the arm. Barnes faces multiple charges related to the shooting, and a judge denied bond during his court appearance on Tuesday.
Additionally, 51-year-old Jermaine Mitchell, who lives in the same Wake Forest home as the Barnes family, was charged with assault in connection with the brawl. His bond was also changed from unsecured to secured during his court appearance on Tuesday.
While authorities are still unclear about the cause of the brawl, the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming.
Adrienne Barnes is due to appear in court again on Wednesday.
