A 32-year-old man died after being shot Sunday afternoon near the McDonald’s on Nifong Boulevard in south Columbia.

The Columbia Police Department confirmed that Derek Gonzalez, 32, of Columbia, passed away at a local hospital after the shooting in the 500 block of East Nifong Blvd.

Officers found two victims at the scene, both of whom were transported to the hospital. According to police, the man died from his injuries, and the woman—who sustained serious injuries—is now in stable condition.

Police detained one person at the scene but later released them without filing charges.

In a social media post, CPD stated there are no outstanding suspects.

An ABC 17 News reporter spotted at least 10 Columbia Police vehicles, three from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, and several ambulances around 12:50 p.m. in the McDonald’s parking lot on Nifong Blvd. Investigators also placed multiple evidence markers in the area.
