Clayton to begin leaf collection program

Staff Report

Leaf piles should be placed as close to the curb as possible (without obstructing traffic). City vehicles cannot leave the street, so if the equipment can’t reach the leaves we can’t pick them up.

CLAYTON — All Clayton residential properties located on a public street are scheduled for two collections during the leaf drop season. There are a few things to remember to help make the collection process run smoothly:

• Place only leaves in the leaf piles. Other forms of yard waste such as rocks, pieces of cement, tree branches, twigs, flowers, walnuts, and grass clippings are not acceptable and slow the collection process and damage City equipment.

• At any time, residents may place leaves and yard waste at the curb in standard plastic bags for normal trash pickup.

• If there are leaves left after the collection, it is because crews could not reach them with the equipment. Residents will need to move the leaves closer to the street so the crew can collection the leaves on the next pass.

• Have leaves ready for collection on the Sunday preceding the scheduled date of collection in your zone.

• Leaf piles should be placed as close to the curb as possible (without obstructing traffic). City vehicles cannot leave the street, so if the equipment can’t reach the leaves we can’t pick them up.

• Property owners without curbs may pile their leaves as close to the street as possible, but should never be placed in the street.

• Leaves should not be piled behind parked vehicles, near storm drains, or around telephone poles, sign posts, or mailboxes.

Leaf Collection Zones

City crews will make every attempt to follow the pickup schedule but the weather may cause changes. The city is divided into four collection zones. Each zone will have two leaf collections. Scheduled collection dates will vary depending on weather conditions and the timing of leaves falling.

Zone 1 is scheduled for collection the weeks of Oct. 16 and Oct. 30.

Zone 2 is scheduled for collection the weeks of Oct. 23 and Nov. 6.

Zone 3 is scheduled for collection the weeks of Oct. 16 and Nov. 13.

Zone 4 is scheduled for collection the weeks of Oct. 23 and Nov. 20.
